Frequently Asked Questions
How many people does the hall hold?
The capacity of seated people in Coalport Village Hall is about 80 persons.
What are the start and end times of the hire periods?
Each hire period is roughly 5 hours: 8am - 1pm, 1pm - 6pm, 6pm - 11pm. There is some flexibility in this although it also depends on any other hire period in the same day.
How much does it cost to hire the hall?
See the Hire Rates page.
What time do I need to vacate the hall at night?
Because we have neighbours immediately adjacent to the Hall we expect functions to finish at 11pm and guests to leave shortly afterwards.
Is it possible to cook / serve hot food?
The kitchen in the hall includes an industrial gas cooker/oven but there is a nominal charge of £5 (in 2011) for use of the kitchen to cover the cost of the gas and any cleaning.
Can I hire a band or DJ for my event?
We have an entertainments license so live music and/or a DJ would be fine.
Can I serve alcoholic drinks?
We do not have a license to sell alcoholic drinks although you can apply for a Temporary Events Notice http://www.coalportvillagehall.co.uk/TEN.html if you want to run a paid bar. There is a local public house that we can put you in contact with who may run a bar for you (but you still need to apply for a Temporary Events Notice). However, if you intend to supply the alcoholic drinks free-of-charge, or people bring their own there is no problem.
Is there anywhere to eat nearby?
Opposite the hall is a cafe (in the same building as the Youth Hostel) that serves snacks and drinks although this is closed during the Winter. A short walk in an easterly direction brings you to the Brewery Inn which serves food all through the day, from a 9 am breakfast through to 7.30 pm. A short walk in a westerly direction brings you to the Shakespeare Inn - this is only open in the evenings (from 5pm) on week-days but also 12 noon - 3pm at weekends.
Why can't my guests wear stiletto heels in the hall?
The wooden floor is made from softwood and is easily damaged by the sharp heels. If small children play on a damaged floor they could get a splinter.
